Black Minds Leadership Program

The Black Minds Leadership Program, as the leadership development arm of BMEA, focuses on intergenerational mentoring to foster confident and skilled individuals while creating a pipeline for Black males in the teaching profession. The program utilizes high school mentors to engage elementary-aged students, aiming to improve math proficiency and develop emerging young Black male leaders by fostering productive struggle, productive talk, and cultivating mindsets.

  • The Black Minds Leadership Program nurtures Black male identity and fosters a community of learners supporting each other’s growth.
  • High school mentors play a crucial role in engaging elementary-aged students, creating positive Black male role models in teaching.
  • The program operates both during and after school hours, proactively supporting young leaders in their learning and fostering community building and skill cultivation.

A Commitment to Family & Community Engagement

Family Engagement is critical to the transformation of schools. In December 2023, over 150 members of the  BMEA Community joined together for The BMEA Community Holiday Luncheon!

It was an amazing time as members of our Teacher and Principal Wellness PLCs joined together with the students and families from The Black Minds Leadership Program. Funders, Board Members, and school leaders were also in attendance!

It was a packed house, full of love, good vibes, community building, and reflections. Thank you to Detroit Achievement Academy, one of our partner schools, for hosting today’s luncheon!

We think it’s safe to say everyone left understanding THIS IS A MOVEMENT!
