The Mission

The Black Male Educators Alliance mission is to develop effective culturally responsive educators who cultivate learning partnerships and grow independent thinkers into change agents for their communities.    

Our Programs

School Partnerships

We partner with schools to support the implementation of BMEA’s Liberating Learners Framework of concepts and strategies that are intellectually stimulating, and create school environments that foster a spirit of liberation and honor Black excellence.

Lifting Our Voices Podcast

The BMEA Podcast engages Black male educators and culturally responsive teaching professionals in conversations related to education policy, school reform, pedagogy, current events, and issues affecting our community. Enjoy these stimulating and enlightening conversations via social media, bi-weekly on Thursdays at 7pm.

Early Career Teacher Fellowship (ECTF)

This co-ed fellowship opportunity engages first through third-year teachers of color, and focuses on self-care and wellness, prioritizing and strengthening parent/family relationships, and addressing early career challenges such as lesson planning and classroom management to retain the culturally responsive educator.

Conferences and Events

We facilitate annual and quarterly convenings in a professional development workshop setting, featuring thought leaders and subject matter experts who share in our mission of dedicating efforts towards transforming education nationwide.

Principal Wellness Fellowship

Through this two-year fellowship, school leaders develop authentic relationships in a learning community with opportunities for ongoing mentorship. They identify individual challenges, set goals, and design a personal wellness plan for sustainability, transformative practices, and overall self-care.

Black Minds Math Leadership Program

Our intergenerational mentoring program seeks to create a pipeline for young Black males to enter the teaching field. It exists to solve a long sought-after challenge of increasing the percentage of Black males in the classroom and improving math proficiency in Detroit-area public schools
