Michael Payne
Michael Payne, the Director of Teaching and Learning at the Black Male Educators Alliance, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his role. As a graduate of Morehouse College, he holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics. In 2012, Michael embarked on a journey with Urban Teachers, where he earned a Master’s degree in Secondary Math and Special Education. This program also provided him with certification in teaching mathematics for grades 6-12.
Michael’s teaching career began as a math teacher and special educator in Baltimore City Public Schools. In 2015, he transitioned to Detroit, where he continued to teach high school mathematics. Recognizing his expertise and passion for education, he later assumed the role of a high school instructional coach, further enhancing his impact on student learning.
Beyond his professional achievements, Michael takes pride in being a devoted father to his son, Michael III. He finds joy in coaching his son’s baseball and soccer teams, fostering a strong bond through shared experiences on the field.
