Be A Presenter

The Black Male Educators Alliance of Michigan proudly announces the 2018 Inaugural Midwest Black Male Summit will be held September 22-23, 2018, at Triumph Church in Detroit, MI.

The Summit Planning Committee is pleased to invite K-12 educators and administrators, postsecondary faculty and staff, community leaders within the non-profit and private sectors, government/social service agencies, local employers, and other social entrepreneurs and professionals to submit a proposal to facilitate a 60-minute breakout session on the 2018 Summit theme:Changing The Narrative.

We are looking for presentations that will deepen conference attendees’ understanding of the paradigms that lead to educational inequity in the United States, in addition to highlighting the innovations that are challenging and shifting the aforementioned paradigms as we know them.  We are particularly interested in presentations that demonstrate best practices around recruiting, retaining, and developing black male educators.  This is an excellent opportunity to share your expertise and provide insight about successful programs, partnerships and/or activities underway in your classroom, inside your school district, on your college campus or within your industry.

Each proposal should be submitted under one of the following three tracks:

  1. Systems in/and Society (e.g. Anti-Blackness & the School to Prison Pipeline, The Conservative Movement & Education in Michigan, Policy Recommendations, & The Impact of Non-profits).
  2. Teaching and Learning (e.g. Culturally Relevant Teaching, Re-conceptualizing STEM Education, Teaching Students of Color, Deeper Learning, Managing Social Media in the Classroom, Vocation Training & Life Skills)
  3. #blacklivesmatter (e.g. Mentoring Black Male Educators, Recruiting Black Male Educators, The Black Family)

Presentation proposals must be submitted online; The link to the online presentation proposal form is located HERE. Please note that for presentations with multiple presenters, only one proposal submission is required.

The presentation proposal deadline is Friday, August 3, 2018. You will be notified of your status by email no later than Friday, August 17, 2018. If you have questions or need assistance, please contact Dr. Marini Lee, Breakout Session Co-Chair at drlee @blackmaleeducatorsalliance.org

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Black Male Educators Aliiance of Michigan.
