Dear Valued BMEA Supporter,
At the close of every year, we look forward to our annual Season of Giving. This tradition holds a special place in our hearts as it symbolizes a beacon of hope for our organization. It’s during this season that we extend an invitation to our community—a community that includes dedicated individuals like you who share our vision of empowering entire school communities to revolutionize the educational experience for Black children throughout our nation.
This year, we humbly request your support for a very special cause: “Support a Black Mind.” We invite you to give generously to the young leaders participating in our Black Minds Leadership Program, BMEA’s intergenerational leadership development initiative. Our goal is ambitious but crucial: to raise funds that will provide life-changing experiences for 150 Black boys in Metro-Detroit schools spanning grades K-12. Your generous contributions are the lifeblood of this effort, and we cannot overstate how essential your involvement is.
The Black Minds Leadership Program is the cornerstone of BMEA’s K-12 intergenerational leadership development model. It aspires to create a pipeline for young Black males to enter the teaching field or STEM-related careers, effectively addressing the longstanding challenge of increasing the percentage of Black males in the classroom. Our program has a specific focus on improving math proficiency in Detroit-area schools and addressing socioeconomic disparities among inner-city youth.
In its inaugural year, the program achieved remarkable results: 77% of the youth enrolled demonstrated double-digit growth on post-assessments, 79% of students reported increased confidence in mathematics and its concepts, and 100% of parents observed social growth in their children since enrollment.
Your steadfast dedication to our young leaders not only fosters their ongoing development but also plays a pivotal role in supporting the financial aspects of each young leader’s monthly stipend and all the necessary expenses for sustaining and advancing the Black Minds Leadership Program.
Thank you for being an integral part of our journey and for the hope and opportunity you bring to the young minds we serve. Your support means the world to us.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Curtis L. Lewis, Ph.D.
